Ghanaian highlife legend Pat Thomas and fellow Fante music icon Ebo Taylor are set to reach an even wider global audience as their classic song, ‘Gye W’enyi’, features on the radio soundtrack of the highly anticipated video game Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6).
The song has been listed on AfroBank FM, one of the in-game radio stations unveiled by Rockstar Games. The station will feature African music, including contemporary sounds and classic recordings, with Nigerian musician Burna Boy and DJ Palms Trax serving as its hosts. The inclusion of ‘Gye W’enyi’ places Ghanaian highlife among the diverse sounds players will experience in the game.
Originally spelt ‘Gye W’enyi’ but represented as ‘Gye Wani’, the title is a Fante expression that literally means ‘take your eye’, but its intended meaning is ‘enjoy yourself’.
The song carries a timeless message about enjoying life while one has the opportunity. Its message reminds listeners that tomorrow is not promised and that death is an unavoidable part of human existence. Rather than postponing happiness, the song encourages people to appreciate life and make the most of the time they have.
The message reflects a familiar theme in Ghanaian music, where everyday expressions are used to communicate important lessons about life, mortality and human experience. Through the song, Pat Thomas and Ebo Taylor deliver a message that remains relevant across generations.

Pat Thomas, celebrated for his distinctive voice and contribution to Ghanaian highlife, has spent decades helping shape the country’s musical identity. Ebo Taylor, another celebrated Fante musician, is equally respected for his guitar work, songwriting and role in the development of Ghana’s highlife and Afrobeat sounds.
Their collaboration on ‘Gye W’enyi’ represents a meeting of two influential figures in Ghanaian music. Its appearance on the GTA 6 radio soundtrack offers international players an opportunity to encounter a classic Ghanaian recording while exploring the game’s virtual world.
The selection is also a reminder that Ghana’s musical heritage has a place on the global stage, alongside contemporary African music and internationally recognised artists.
Grand Theft Auto VI, developed by Rockstar Games, is officially scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, featuring Vice City, and follows the story of Jason and Lucia.
Music has long been a defining part of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, with its in-game radio stations introducing players to different genres, artists and musical traditions. GTA 6 continues that tradition with a wide-ranging selection of stations, including AfroBank FM, which brings African music into the game’s soundscape.
With ‘Gye W’enyi’ now part of the announced radio lineup, Pat Thomas and Ebo Taylor’s message of enjoying life is poised to travel far beyond Ghana, reaching a new generation of listeners through one of the most anticipated video games of 2026.
