The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), College of Languages Education, Ajumako, through its Faculty of Ghanaian Languages Education, is set to celebrate its 2025 Cultural Week from Tuesday, August 19, to Friday, August 22, 2025.

This year’s celebration is themed “Language as a Cultural Heritage and its Place in National Development”, highlighting the vital role of indigenous languages in preserving cultural identity and promoting national growth.

The Celebration will feature varities of cultural display from all walks of Ghana.

The week-long programme will feature a variety of cultural, educational, and recreational activities. The opening ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, will take place at the ceremonial grounds and include a health talk, followed by inter-level traditional games.

Food Bazaar is a key part of the Celebration.

On Wednesday, August 20, students will engage in an Inter-Level Quiz Competition alongside cultural drumming and dancing sessions. Thursday, August 21, will see an Inter-departmental Traditional Food Bazaar/Competition, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of Ghana.

The celebration will climax on Friday, August 22, with a grand durbar led by traditional ‘Chiefs’ and ‘Queen Mothers’ representing various ethnic groups, accompanied by their subjects, cultural performances, drumming, dancing, and a parade by the College Cadet Corps.

Key dignitaries for the event include Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor of UEW, as Guest of Honour; Mrs. Benedicta Armah-Harty, Principal of the College of Languages Education, as Chairperson; Prof. Samuel Apau Asiedu, Dean of the Faculty of Ghanaian Languages Education, as Host; and Prof. Andrews Anthony Adomako, as the Keynote Speaker.

The Cultural Week Celebration promises to be a vibrant display of Ghanaian heritage, emphasizing the importance of language in shaping national identity and development.
