CANAL+’s Multichoice subsidiary, SuperSport, has secured the broadcast rights for Africa Cup of Nations 2025 (AFCON 2025), scheduled to be held in Morocco from 21 Dec 2025 – 18 Jan 2026, for English and Portuguese-speaking African countries including coverage in indigenous African languages, in which Ghana’s Twi will be prominently featured. The language has been used in previous editions of the tournament and continues to gain prominence.

Speaking to the media about the new rights acquisition, Ramohva, Director of Sport Content English and Portuguese-speaking Africa for MultiChoice commented:

“We will have a dedicated SuperSport AFCON channel. As part of the CANAL+ group, we can take that viewing to another level. People can now expect more compelling viewing, brought to them in a language of their choice.”

SuperSport’s coverage of Morocco 2025 will be available on both DStv and GOtv. It is believed that CANAL+ and SuperSport’s coverage will include star-studded line-ups of analysts, commentators, presenters and African football legends, promising a rich viewing experience.

Twi, the Akan dialect spoken by millions of Ghanaians, is likely the chosen to stand as the sole Ghanaian language to feature in the indigenous-language broadcast lineup. This selection is in recognition of Twi’s popularity and media presence in Ghana and across West Africa. The language’s previous inclusion in earlier editions of AFCON broadcasts shows its regional reach and audience appeal. By providing commentary and analysis in Twi, SuperSport aims to connect more with Ghanaian viewers and the broader Akan-speaking community.

AFCON 2025 itself is poised to be another landmark edition of Africa’s premier football tournament, bringing together the continent’s top national teams to compete in Morocco. With expanded language offerings and enhanced coverage, the tournament’s reach into diverse audiences is set to grow even further.

With Twi commentary now officially in the mix, Ghanaian fans can look forward to enjoying the drama, excitement and pride of AFCON 2025 in a language they feel deeply connected to. Meanwhile the Black Stars of Ghana will not be part of the exciting showpiece of African football as they failed to qualify having finished last in their qualifying group.
