The University of Education, Winneba, College of Languages Education, Ajumako, under the Faculty of Ghanaian Languages, is thrilled to announce its Cultural Week Celebration for 2024. The Cultural Week Celebration is an annual event held by the faculty, dedicated to promoting Ghanaian languages and culture.

The event features various activities from the sixteen languages on campus, including traditional music and dance, food bazaar, drumming and singing performances, traditional games, poem recitals, and other cultural showcases. This year’s celebration, scheduled from Monday, 15th July to Friday, 19th July, promises to be an engaging and enlightening event aimed at promoting Ghanaian languages in education.

The theme for the 2024 edition is “Promoting Ghanaian Languages in Education: A Catalyst for Enhancing Intercultural Relations and National Development.” This theme reflects the importance of language in fostering cultural understanding and contributing to national growth.

The festivities will kick off on Monday, 15th July, with the Launching of the Week Celebration at the Ceremonial Grounds (Quadrangle) at 2:00 pm. The opening ceremony will set the tone for a week filled with various educational and cultural activities.

The program outline for the week is as follows:

  • Tuesday, 16th July, 2024: A Health Talk and Inter-Level Traditional Games will take place at the Ceremonial Grounds at 1:30 pm.
  • Wednesday, 17th July, 2024: An Inter-Level Quiz Competition and Cultural Drumming & Dancing will be held at the Ceremonial Grounds at 1:30 pm.
  • Thursday, 18th July, 2024: The Inter-Departmental Traditional Food Bazaar/Competition will occur at the Ceremonial Grounds at 1:30 pm.
  • Friday, 19th July, 2024: The week will conclude with a grand Durbar at 9:30 am at the Ceremonial Grounds.

The event will feature prominent figures including Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Dominic Kwaku Danso Mensah, Principal of the College of Languages Education, Ajumako, and Prof. Samuel Awinkene Atintono, President of AFRICALA.

Ghanalingo will have their men on grounds to bring every update. Join us for a week of cultural immersion and celebration as we highlight the significance of Ghanaian languages in education and their role in enhancing intercultural relations and national development.
