The Ghanaian Language Wikimedia Communities, as well as enthusiasts and advocates for the Ghanaian language, are set to gather for the much-anticipated Ghanaian Languages Wikimedia Community Meetup 2024. This year’s theme, “Strengthen Ghanaian Languages on the Internet,” underscores the critical mission of preserving and promoting the rich linguistic heritage of Ghana in the digital age.

This year’s edition will be hosted in Tamale for the second consecutive time. The event is scheduled for July 26-28, 2024, at the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association Hotel. The three-day event promises a robust agenda filled with insightful discussions, collaborative workshops, and strategic planning sessions aimed at strengthening Ghanaian languages on the internet.

Attendees at the mini conference will have the opportunity to connect with fellow community members from various language groups, share best practices, and develop innovative strategies to enhance the presence and quality of Ghanaian languages on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia platforms. It will also serve as a platform for communities to explore volunteer recruitment as well as strategies and community leadership development.

This conference is open to all Ghanaian language wikimedians, Ghanaian language enthusiasts and advocates, as well as individuals who are interested in open knowledge. As part of the meetup, there will be a workshop designed to help participants create a personalized plan for engaging in language digital activism rather than teaching specific tools.

This year’s edition, with the hashtag #GLWC24 is proudly partnered by Open Knoweledge Ghana, Rising Voices, ART + FEMINISM, Wikimedia Foundation, Dagbani Wikimedians User Group, Wiki Loves Living Heritage, NLP Ghana among others. The media partners for the event are Sagani TV and Deeptot.
